The SoundOut 2011 Festival for a second exciting year will take the roof off music. Transporting you beyond the prefabricated, the mortgaged and the expected, this is the Free Improvisational, Free Jazz and Experimental Music festival to re-birth both your ears and mind!
Europe's hottest improvisational 'Action Jazz' power-house trio - The Thing: [Mats Gustafsson (sax) Ingebrigt Haker Flaten (double bass), Paal Nilssen-Love (drums) (Norway/Sweden)] unleash their seismic ground breaking music while electro-acoustic free improvisation and noise music provocateurs from Canada, China, Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Australia collide, move walls, swap domiciles, and cross-pollinate in the exploration of their sonic art forms. Magda Mayas/ Tony Buck duo delve into the cracks in sound, into the fissures of musical normatives to expose its underbelly. Jim Denley/ Kim Myhr duo shifts the ground on which our conceptions of music are based. Cor Fulher dissects and reinterprets sound from inside the piano and Yan Jun coaxes feedback into virtuosity. Duo Vulgarities moves sounds on skin of percussion and feedback to evolve your ears; while the Dale Gorfinkel, Rosalind Hall, Laura Altman, Monika Brooks, Mike Majkowski, Michael Norris, Richard Johnson and Spartak all bring their unique blend of sound exploration to illuminate the future.
This group of players has never gathered before and never will again in the same configuration, but they are all involved in an international dialogue that is essential to the unfolding of new music structures and what it means to be human in the 21st Century. Come, see and hear what the new thinkers are up to.
